Dürer Rhinocerus

Print of the woodcut from Albrecht Dürer 1515

Albrecht Dürer has long inspired us with his excellent paintings in his extremely good quality with regard to the execution of our paintings. His statement:

“Then the art is truly in nature. Who can tear it out has it "

corresponds exactly to our credo of creating art work of the highest precision and liveliness.

At the beginning of 2020 we considered creating a “ Dürer Rhinocerus ” as a homage to Albrecht Dürer according to the aspects just mentioned, as the culmination of our artistic activity and also with regard to our “old” home Franconia. For the first time, we designed this bronze work of art with a completely new and unprecedented level of precision after printing for the famous woodcut from 1515. The design of the model alone took 460 hours. For example, the number of spines on the back of our bronze exactly matches the number of spikes visible on the graphic - and not only this!.

In this context, there are also some elementary designs new to our sculpture, which in earlier versions (e. g. Rhinoceros sculptures by Salvadore Dali) were anatomically incorrect or not shown at all. In addition, some of Dali's rhinocerus sculptures are also insufficiently executed in terms of the casting technique.

Individual elements that can be clearly seen after the art print / woodcut are reproduced in our work faithfully and in detail. We have interpreted some of the structures that cannot be seen well or not at all according to our anatomical experience, also with regard to the Indian rhinos alive today, in such a way that they contribute to a good, comprehensible and artistic overall picture.
